1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 (Frame Off Restoration)

Here is a really rare 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 that is pretty much stock and restored…many of the early 70’s FJ40 models have a V8 conversion with the dash hacked up…this beauty has the stock Toyota 2F 6 cylinder inline engine as well. This FJ40 is currently for sale on eBay…Enjoy!

1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 (V8 Conversion – Frame Off Custom Restoration)

Here is an interesting 1976 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser that has been restored with some custom elements added to it courtesy of Smokey Mountain Traders in Lenoir City, Tennessee.

This 1976 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser is currently for sale on eBay….the beautiful model in the picture is not part of the package price!!:>)

We will start off with the exterior of the Land Cruiser. The body had a lot of time spent on it and it can be see with the straight panels and good fit of the doors and hood. Also it had fender flairs added. The paint is Base Clear that we believe to be Fire Thorn Red Ply that is accented by a silver top and the black canvas top in the rear. It has a Warn Winch that’s mounted to a custom front bumpers. All the badges look to be new. The final exterior touch is the set of BFG 33-950-15 Tires with the stock hub Caps.

Next, we will take a look at the interior of the ’76. It’s every bit as nice as the exterior with the seats being covered in black leather with reinserts that complement the exterior scheme perfectly. They match the door panels that are also covered in black leather. The steering was upgraded to a tilt column. Also, it has power windows, cd player (that’s hidden under the seat as to not cut on the dash), and don’t forget the Vintage AC. The dash looks stock with only a few after market gauges. Before they installed the floor mat they painted the floor to match the exterior of this 4X4.

Finally we will take a look at the driveline of the Toyota. Under the hood you will see no more 6 cylinder, better yet it now has a Tuner Port Injected 350 Chevy V8. It has aluminum heads with coated Shorty Headers. The trim on the engine was painted to match the exterior. The trans is a Chevy Turbo that’s hooked to the stock transfer case and rear ends. Also they added electric fans and K&N Filters. It comes set up with Power Steering and Power Disc Brakes. To save space the exhaust is 2” to 1” with a Flow Master Muffler.

1962 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 (Frame Off Restoration)

This is one of the most beautiful & amazing transformations I have ever seen regarding a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 frame off restoration…here are the fine details from the auction below…Enjoy!

This amazing Land Cruiser is currently for sale here on eBay

Here is the full restoration thread on IH8MUD.COM

1962 FJ40 / EXTREMELY RARE FULL RESTORATION. This cruiser sat in a Steamboat Springs, Colorado barn for 44 years with busted flywheel teeth and a busted column shifter from 1968 to 2012 . It was purchased in August 2012, pulled it out of the barn, shipped it to  California for a full frame off restoration. This Land Cruiser had 99% of all its original parts from the factory, NO cancer rust, No dents and just over 44k miles on it. It was able to restored back to 100% STOCK. Finding even 1% of the UNOBTAINIUM was a chore in itself, sometimes taking weeks to locate simple items in order to keep it period correct. A company was hired to build me a new period correct battery from 1962.  Even the original 52 year old hose clamps were restored. From our estimation there have only been perhaps 2 other 1962 FJ40 hardtops that have been restored to factory specs. Toyota brought in approx. 500 to the United States. We have been able to track down only about 27 still on the road. 1961 – 1962 was the FIRST TIME Toyota built the classic beloved FJ40 Land Cruiser. Things changed after 1962 making this cruiser extremely rare. The paint was even taken back to the original Factory color (Lily White T-403) and is exactly the same as it would have been rolling off the line in 1962

1978 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser (frame off restoration)

Here is a very nice late model FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser from 1978 in dark green that has had a full frame off restoration done…

This is a 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40. It has been completely restored. It has been taken off the frame, the motor has been rebuilt, and it currently has about 2000 miles on it. The original emissions function correctly, and the vehicle runs extremely well. There is an 8000lb Warn winch and functioning A/C. An after-market lockable console was installed with a new Stereo and “wake board tower speakers” mounted to the roll bar. Original rubber front mats, new upholstery front and jump seats, door panels and re-furbished dash pad.

1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 (Factory AC & P/S)

This is a wonderfully rare 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with factory AC & Power Steering…Enjoy!

For sixty years, over a million Land Cruisers have traversed paths from the South Pole to the Sahara. Now it’s your turn.

It’s widely reported that only about three hundred FJ40‘s were imported to the USA in 1983. These were the last FJ40’s sent to the US. Of those 300, it’s estimated that 50 or so had factory power steering and air conditioning. Of those 50, a few had wing windows which normally would have been reserved for non-USA trucks. The legend goes that as US shipments were winding down, Toyota was pulling whatever parts were available to build the last FJ40’s bound for US soil. This is one of those trucks with all of the aforementioned attributes.

This beautiful rust free 1983 FJ40 had a frame-on restoration in 2009-2010 and is in excellent condition. It includes factory A/C and power steering, the original 2F 6-cylinder with all emissions intact. I’ve owned her since 2008 and I have history on her dating back to the 90’s. I have pictures of her before and during the restoration. She was very original and in excellent shape. She retains her original engine, drive-train, original upholstery, mats, factory correct wheels, owners manual, toolkit, inspection light, and is 99% stock. There is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD and speakers in the doors. The goal was to renovate using OEM parts and retaining her classic stock charm. The original 2F six cylinder underwent a total rebuild in 2002. The motor is strong and the truck has been maintained by Toyota of Des Moines where the service department predictably stops what they’re doing to gather round every time I bring her in. The truck will be gone over with a fresh oil change and all levels checked at the dealership prior to shipping.

During renovation, the truck was professionally repainted the original Toyota Freeborn Red (paint code 309) by Custom Finish Auto using PPG single stage on the exterior and portions of the interior. We installed a new bumper, signal lamps, emblems, hood hooks, door handles, weatherstripping, headliner and several parts were powder coated. The A/C compressor and other components were replaced and the existing radiator was rebuilt.

The truck’s original 4-speed manual transmission includes the sought after 3.70 helical cut gears, and a stock transfer case to serve up an awesome combination of on-road handling and off-road prowess. Toyota factory power steering makes driving this FJ40 effortless. Front disc and rear drum brake combination will bring all you to a quick and uneventful stop. She is equipped with the Aisin free wheeling hubs. All turn signals, lights, wipers, washers, taillights, backup lights, license plate lights, side markers and all gauges work. The tires at BFG Trail T/A’s with the exception of the spare which is the original Dunlop Snow Cruiser that she shipped with.

1966 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Truck (Restored)

20130911-211029.jpg

Via ebay listing:

This 1966 Toyota FJ45 is a beautifully restored two owner truck.

While not a frame off restoration, the FJ did receive light body work and full high level Toyota stock Coronado Beige paint work inside and out by a quality Toyota restoration shop.

All gauges and mechanical items work perfectly and no expense has been spared to bring this rare truck into First Class operating status. The original F1 engine has been fully rebuilt with only 3,000 miles since the build. Brand new BF Goodrich Off Road tires installed. Original spec coil spring shocks and solid suspension. Many other repairs and improvements have been done to this truck, making it a well sorted vehicle with virtually no issues to contend with.

The truck hums along nicely at 65 mph with it’s stock 6-cylinder engine and unlike many old Land Cruisers, this truck was not abused as it was used over the years by the prior two mature owners. We have in our records the “before” pictures of this solid truck and also restoration photos throughout the refurbishment phase which attests not only the original stoutness of the truck but also the quality paint work and finishing touches.

When driving this FJ45 one does not hear rattles and the car tracks beautifully and purrs along. Off road it performs like the vintage dream that it is. These FJ45s were only imported into the USA for a few years from the early to mid 1960s, making them the rarest of the Toyota Land Cruiser lineage. While a most usable classic to enjoy and operate, it is “money in the bank” with it’s highly collectible and rarity status. Only a handful of these trucks dot the globe. As a testament to their remarkable build quality, many are still in daily use in the Australian Outback and other Third World countries.

Considering the rareness of the 1960’s Toyota Fj45’s and the ability to find one as original and well cared for as this example. Restored mere months ago at high cost by a fine Toyota restoration house!
We feel this particular truck represents a value investment and capable performer to the savvy classic car investor.

And, this 1966 Toyota FJ45a truck will attract plenty of “thumbs up” along the way…whether coastal cruising or driving a bumpy back roads trail….it doesn’t get much better than this awesome, original FJ45…

“YOU GOT IT TOYOTA!”

A good friend of our is parting with one of his rare classic finds.

Three speed on the floor was a change-out, done years ago—a three on the three column shifter. Only non stock modification. Still has the coil springs—most of these are now long gone.

Brand new brakes, battery, all fluids, all new seals, new main seal, new clutch slave and seals, new “steering pittman arm” replaced for super tight steering. Transfer case for 4wd works perfect. Brand new BF Goodrich tires, freshly painted stock rims and hubcaps. Warn locking front hubs. Original Toyota spec F1 engine—-era correct. Original Toyota carburetor replaced with Chevy carburetor. All wiring gone through, all lights work, both wiper motors rebuild and work perfectly. Heater works awesome. New wiper blades. New bumper. Horn works as do all turn signals. New door seals and window rubber.

This FJ 45 was made available to the US market for only 4 years only from 1963-1967. Sold throughout Canada, Australia and South America, many are still performing in the Australian Outback to this day. The FJ45 model in Australia is proudly praised, and known by many as Hi Lux.

The Toyota FJ45 is the golden child of Toyota’s due to it’s very rare nature and these models are steadily going up in value as collector’s prize this rare and most usable truck. This particular version benefited from long ownership by a mature owner and unlike many work trucks was not abused while it was used.

The long bed version is the most sought after for it’s balanced look and long wheel base. It is nearly 40″ longer than the FJ40. The bed is 7 feet long. This truck can be taken on long trips as it cruises all day at 65 mph. This particular truck has ZERO rattles and suspension is super-strong. All interior has been repainted as well in it’s original Toyota Coronado Beige. The 66 is also prized for heavier gauge metal and more retro style than the post 70′s FJ’s.

1974 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser (custom dealer pin striping)

This is a very cool 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40. This is a second owner rig purchased from Reno (Nevada) Toyota, in 1976. Of interest is this is equipped with the “better” F-engine (F-and-a-half) and four speed transmission and has the dealer applied stripe kit. It retains the blue and gold California license plates of that era.
