Land Cruiser of the Day: an overnight success, ten years in the making

I’ve had many Land Cruiser of the Day fans reach out to ask me how this website and the corresponding Pinterest page got started?

I never really intended for my Blog or Pinterest account to ever reach 300K+ eyeballs each month. The Land Cruiser of the Day Blog was a simple byproduct of spending each afternoon collecting images & information about vintage Land Cruisers, then posting them accordingly.

It all started around 2008 or so. I would take my 3 o’clock afternoon break each day and propagate the data & images I had collected to a simple WordPress Blog. This process’s main goal was to preserve pictures and technical data about vintage Land Cruisers to one location on the web. That location needed to have a single access point for owners & fans. Land Cruiser of the Day was born.

I started the Land Cruiser of the Day blog long before the word “influencer” was even a thing. Pinterest was just at its infancy, and I was looking for an effective online photo storage platform. The fact that I could easily share the images & information with other fans of classic Land Cruisers was a definite bonus.

I made the revelation in late 2017 that my shared LCOTD Pinterest account was working in conjunction with my website & Blog to create an excellent symbiotic relationship that was continuing to perpetuate new viewers and fans. A lightbulb went off at that point, and I dug in to understand how these tools could reach a wider audience through strategic content and simple, low-cost social media advertising.

One indirect bonus about having a social media platform that reaches 300K+ people a month is how it can benefit other aspects of your work life. When you understand how to use this influence correctly, you can bounce new traffic to different facets of your business that don’t even have anything in common with the original inspiration. I use my LCOTD influence to help my photography & videography business and other client traffic to promote new products and services.

Sounds great, right? How can I have my Blog reach 300K+ people each month as Land Cruiser of the Day does?

The internet and social media, in general, can sometimes create an unrealistic mindset and unachievable goals. Our scroll for days culture makes us believe that we can (or should) achieve some “overnight success” with our passions and projects. The simple fact is that overnight success with a wide-reaching social media audience is just not possible these days, regardless of how great your content is and how much money you can afford to throw at picking up new fans.

I know I’m going to sound like a broken record here, but anything good in this life takes hard work, dedication, and time, lots of time! Here is the secret you have all been waiting for….the single most crucial concept in becoming a successful influencer on social media is steadfast consistency. Consistency in the quality, quantity & frequency you post for your target community is the make or break x-factor to success. Once you build up some limited growth, then you can reach out to build some partnerships with like-minded companies and brands to possibly boost your presence to the next level.
