The Story: If you’re in Botswana, where Don Huff’s son currently lives, you’ll probably see a? lot of these funky-looking machines.
Around here? Not so much.
Huff found this hard-core hauler mouldering in a scrap yard near Tweed, Ontario, and fell hard.
“I had no idea idea what it was,” he says, “but I loved it.”
It needed work ? boy did it need work (disc brakes, front fenders, replacement of the anemic 6-cylinder 3-speed engine with a a 3B Toyota Diesel engine and 5 speed transmission, and regular de-rusting) ? but it was worth it.
It’s now a fully road-worthy head-turner, painted in “spring green” (a stock colour in 1965) with an aluminum box and a lift-off metal roof that fits over the cab.
Huff is unabashedly fond of his unusual ride.
“I’m a total TLC geek!” he says. “I have two other land cruisers as well, and this one gets driven a great deal in the summer, to car shows, fall fairs and, for fun, along old logging trails in Hastings County.”
