1973 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser (Frame Off Restoration – Green)

Here is a very sweet 1973 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser in green with frame off restoration courtesy of Earth Motorcars

This Land Cruiser is currently available for sale on eBay

This exceptional FRAME OFF, ENGINE OUT RESTORATION was completed by a FJ expert. Set up for on/off road with a GM V8 350 ENGINE, power steering and upgraded disc brakes. If your looking for a true (fully restored) high end custom built Toyota  FJ 40 Land Cruiser, you just found it! Everything in it and on it was replaced new or rebuilt like new. It has been driven very rarely.

This is one of the most Stunning FJ’s you will ever see. The Body is super straight. The Paint color is mint green base coat /clear coat paint that was color sanded and buffed (over 80 hours) to a wet glass shine finish. (Show quality paint work)  FJ was painted on the outside as well as the inside and done correct. All fenders – hood – tailgate – doors removed from body when painted, then re-assembled back on body with stainless and hardware. The body was removed from the frame when painted on a rotisserie so every inch of the body was painted correct.  (Not a road tar covered bottom hiding rust and ugly road grime that you will find on most of them).  A fresh built, nice running V8 351 motor was installed under the hood and this FJ has more power and performance than most could ever use. After the frame was powder coated, it was undercoated to enjoy on any trail without worrying about damaging the under carriage this was done before the motor – trans – 4X4 transfer case – stainless brake lines and  so on were re-installed back into the frame.

You can eat off the engine of this FJ40, we know this because we just completed it! This FJ is a show winner if you like to look at them or an incredible off road suv if you want to enjoy it. Motor fitted with a – 4 bbl carb(just rebuilt) – custom built headers powder coated silver- 3 inch exhaust and a correct sounding Flow Master muffler growl so it’s fun to ride in going down the road. Off Road and a WARN winch are installed as well!

It has  a 2 inch suspension lift along 33 inch tires so its not to high to get in and drives awesome and looks tough!  It runs tight and straight down the road with no issues.  The front bumper is heavy duty and comes equipped with a 8000 pound winch. I just put in a brand new steering box along with all new shocks. The engine was completely rebuilt  and runs fantastic.  This is a get in and drive truck!    The frame is in perfect shape, rust free.  All the mechanicals have been redone.  The 4-speed transmission shifts into gear perfectly with a strong clutch.  The brakes are perfect and stop as they should!

1972 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser (very clean original condition in blue)

1972 FJ40 Toyota Land Cruiser (very clean original condition in blue)

Drives well with all systems operational. I had planned to set up as a lifted, tuff truck, but no time. I cleaned up but have left all blemishes to be seen for your knowledge of true condition. I put an Electronic ignition all in one distributor in it, new plugs and wires. Original 3 speed, trans and transfer case, engine  all well, locking hubs and 4×4 all working well! Drum breaks all around, runs, drives, stops, turns all well! All electrical working, lights, wipers… Has a spare rear gas tank and is not fully connected but all seems to be there. Seat material almost perfect, 1 small tear. No rear heater. As seen there is no door molding on the truck now (allows for a better view of condition )Minimal rust especially underneath.Nice FJ40 needing a good home.

1964 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Truck (Restored by TLC-ICON V8)

This is another sweet looking rig courtesy of Jonathon Ward @ Icon-TLC

This vehicle is currently for sale on eBay

You are looking at one of the few FJ45 short bed pick ups in the USA. It was not imported from Costa Rica, it is not sitting in a lot waiting export to Houston. It is a legal, 1964 FJ45, titled in Montana, and in my name, sitting in my garage, and it is beautiful. It is a true Icon that needs to go to an appreciative owner with a nice garage. It starts, runs and drives extremely well. It has power steering, a power brake booster, front disc brakes, and tons of power. It is NOT a tractor, like most 1960’s Land Cruisers, it will reach 60 mph with ease and in a hurry. It IS one of the nicest V8 powered FJ45’s you will ever see or drive.

The FJ45 comes to you in near perfect condition. It went through a full frame off restoration within the last ten years. The original Toyota paint code T403 Lily White, was used, the cap and front headlight ring are the correct off white Toyota used for their trim and was just reapplied this past month, as was the interior silver trim on the inner door panels, dash cluster and glove box. Rims are powder coated the correct Pewter, and with newer Toyota Hub Caps. The front end sports a WARN winch with new nylon rope and stainless tow hook. Under the 45 you will find the under carriage in near flawless condition. Stainless exhaust in new condition. Shocks, leaf springs, gas tank, cables, all in excellent condition. The frame is completely rust free as is the entire vehicle.

If you want an ICON from Dr. Frankenstein, but can not afford $180,000, this unique FJ45 head turner may be for you. I had it sitting in front of my favorite coffee shop here in town, and a black Lamborghini pulled up next to me and parked beside the FJ45. For a second, glances went the way of the sports car and then every one came back to the Land Cruiser. After a few seconds, many walked over to get a closer look at the 45…..it is Montana, after all. I think the only reason the folks looked away in the first place was that the Italian sports car had a fly rod holder on it……

This 1964 FJ45 comes with pages of documented receipts from TLC 4X4 Service/Repair in Chatsworth, CA. Mr. Ward’s company, TLC4X4 is one of the finest Land Cruiser Restoration, service and repair shops in the world. Building the best, and most expensive custom Land Cruisers ever, at ICON.

A few notable items installed by TLC in 2011, where:

Custom bed cover with front and rear roll up sides. Using 3 ply Mercedes dark gray canvas. Custom made steel one piece bows and J rails powder coated with steel hardware. Parts and Labor $5800

Custom bed mount spare-tire-carrier mounted in bed on bulk head. Parts and labor $990

Front differential replaced inner axle seals, wipers, retainers, grease seals, repack wheel bearings and overhaul front hubs. Parts and Labor $1490

Front and rear break cylinders (all 8) cleaned backing plates, bled brake system and adjusted breaks. Parts and Labor $1410.00

This list goes on for 4 pages and results in a grand total of over $22,000 spent just in upgrades and replacement repairs done at TLC. (see photo of receipts)

The 64′ FJ45 under went a front axle and front disc brake conversion as well, replacing the front axle assembly with a late model FJ40 (1978) factory disc brake axle and late model FJ40 power brake booster and master cylinder. The axles were re geared to match the rear differential, and entirely over hauled with new inner axle seals, burfield seals wipers, retainers, hubs, rotors, calipers, brake hoses, brake pads, all tie rods, and links, and plumed hard brake hoses to the master cylinder.

Since the road test done by TLC in 2011 the 45 has barely been driven. It has a total of less than 6000 miles on the crate Chevrolet 350 V8 motor. Compression shows 180 across the board, and the pickup runs like new. As you can see by the photos, this conversion was done professionally, and no expense was spared. The engine compartment is as clean as the day it was built in Japan almost 50 years ago. All phases of the FJ45 check out: Road Test, Engine, Cooling, Ignition System, Transmission, Transfer Case, both Front and Rear Differentials all gone thru as noted. Drive shaft, Universal Joints, all serviced, Brake System, Suspension, Steering, and wheels and tires. The glass, and all exterior components are all in excellent condition.

1974 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser

1974 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser

Another example of a very rare 1974 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser in amazing condition. Most of these poor “Iron Pigs” (as they are affectionately called) have suffered major rust damage over the years…especially on the top, drip edge and lower quarter panel areas. Ask me how I know…I have a basket case 1974 FJ55 Toyota Land Cruiser in my garage right now!

1977 FJ45 Toyota Land Cruiser truck

This is an amazing 1977 FJ45 Toyota Land Cruiser Truck from Hawaii that was for sale on eBay a few years ago…this is definitely on my must have list at some point. This is one of the finest examples of the Toyota FJ45 that I have ever seen!

1972 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser (Olive)

After saying my goodbyes to our blue 85 FJ60….I set my sites on finding a pre smog FJ40 land cruiser with an SBC Chevy conversion. After searching eBay and Craigslist…I found my next potential rig in Glide Oregon…time for a road trip! My Wife and I headed up to Oregon on 4/21/2011 to take a look at a flat olive & khaki and  1972  FJ40 Land Cruiser with a 327 SBC and TH350 trans. We left ASAP while the weather was decent since we had some snowy mountain ranges to cross that can be a mess if you get caught in a late winter store. We arrived late friday night so we booked a cheesy motel and met with the seller (Scott) on Saturday. The cruiser was very cool, seemed to run well and the seller had done some major work ( new glass, rubber, rebuilt trans, De-rusted and painted the whole rig piece by piece) but I still had some major concerns about the brakes, leaky transfer case, flaky dash wiring etc. After a little negotiation we settled on a price and I paid the man in cash. He was a little concerned about me driving the rig all the way back to California rather than using a trailer to get it home…but I brought all my tools and had my wife and our Corolla as the pit/pilot car. The good news was I made it all the way home without incident…I did encounter a bit of nasty weather over the Siskiyou mountains…the wind blew in the rubber gasket seal between the hard top and the window…so I had a little mist hitting me at 60mph…no problem…stuffed an extra shirt in the gap for the rest if the trip! Once I got here home I made a list of top priority fixes that needed to happen ASAP…these have all been completed of the coarse of the last two years by me with the exception of the disc brake conversion.

New tires,  front bumper, new trailer hitch, new side mirrors, new dash plate and gauges + new wiring harness (hated the cheap fake diamond plate setup!) , new turn signal assembly,  front disk brake conversion, new steering wheel, electric cooling fan conversion, new hi flow water pump, new radiator, new stainless radiator, overflow container, new hoses, new belts,  ARP manifold studs, new exhaust manifold gaskets,  powder coated trim and hardware, stock tire carrier mounted and new Holley carb.
