The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck may be one of the iconic, toughest, most reliable pickup trucks out there. Sold in (almost) every corner of the world, the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck is one of those gems we in North America missed out on. Well, it’s back – Toyota will build the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck once again.
This is a celebration for the 30th year since the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck first hit the market.
As happy as I am that Toyota is reissuing the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck (and the Toyota Land Cruiser SUV platform mate) for one year, North America is getting nothing. No soup for us! Despite being a much more primitive vehicle than the Toyota Tundra, Toyota will not allow the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck to be sold in the USA.
The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck will have the (bullet-proof) 228 horsepower, 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine and part-time four-wheel drive. It will make 265 lb-ft of torque and is hooked up to a proper transmission, a five-speed manual – hallelujah! The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck will average about 15.5 mpg combined.
This is, pretty much, the same truck that was first built in 1984. Sometimes the oldies are the goodies. A few safty upgrades (like airbags and anti-lock brakes) and some external upgrades (such as integrated blinkers in the headlights and a new grill) differentiate the new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck from the original.
There are other goodies like special badging, (30th anniversary commemorative emblem) a special leather key case and maintenance come with the package too.
Both the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Pickup Truck and SUV/Van will be built at the Yoshiwara plant in Japan. The are on sale now – in Japan.
Come on Toyota, be cool and give the United States a taste… with left hand drive – please.
